Summer is just around the corner and we’re already planning a season of garden parties, festival visits and trips to the sunshine. But one essential thing to add to your summer plans – taking care of your skin in the sun.
UV exposure is the primary cause of skin cancer, whether it be through UV rays from the sun or regular use of sunbeds. We know better than anyone that having a glowy tan helps us to feel more confident in ourselves but with so many better alternatives out there *cough, Crazy Angel, cough*, why take the risk?
As we head into the summer months, here are some of our top swaps for keeping your skin safe in the sun:
SWAP SUNBEDS FOR SELF-TAN
It’s the most obvious one but stay away from indoor tanning beds! The UV rays which come from sunbeds are so harmful to your skin, even with minimal use. Opting for self-tan is a much safer alternative; if you like a natural glow, we recommend Gradual Tan, if you prefer a medium tan go for the Express Liquid Tan or if you like to be deep and bronzed, Self-Tan Mousse is the one.
SWAP STRAPPY TOPS FOR FLOATY DRESSES
Wearing protective clothing is a must when heatwave weather appears! But don’t worry, you can put the woolly jumpers back in your wardrobe – we recommend light, floaty dresses and shirts that keep you cool but keep your skin safe. A nice summer hat will also keep your face protected.
SWAP SUN WORSHIPPING FOR CHILLING IN THE SHADE
Try not to expose your skin to too much direct sun, especially during the hottest hours of the day. Take yourself for a nice cool walk in the shade, or if you’re on holiday spend this time sightseeing or enjoying the local cuisine. Your skin will thank you for it!
SWAP HEAVY MAKE-UP FOR AN SPF
You should apply SPF daily regardless of the weather, but this is essential during the summer months. Summer is the perfect time to let your skin breathe so we say ditch the heavy make-up for a daily glowy SPF that will keep your skin safe and feeling amazing.
